About Role

As a Data Centre Technician at LMG, you will work closely with on-site teams and our client, providing day-to-day technical support within a live data centre environment.

This role involves supporting a wide range of data centre systems and infrastructure, from structured cabling connectivity requests (patching, testing, validation, and decommissioning) through to larger cabling installations. You will play a key role in ensuring data accuracy, service reliability, and a high standard of delivery across all tasks.

You’ll be a customer-focused and adaptable technician, comfortable responding to faults and requests as they arise, with a strong understanding of data centre operations and a proactive, team-oriented approach.

Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Install, terminate, and test copper (Cat6 / Cat6A) and fibre optic (singlemode and multimode) cabling safely within live data centre environments.
  • Carry out patching, termination, and fly-lead installation on infrastructure frames and within host cabinets.
  • Provide 1st and 2nd line fault diagnosis and resolution for structured cabling systems and network connectivity issues.
  • Test infrastructure using Fluke test equipment and LinkWare software, ensuring compliance with manufacturer, client, and industry standards.
  • Support and deliver data centre migrations, including provisioning, testing, out-of-hours support, and decommissioning activities.
  • Act as a point of contact for incident support, migration assistance, and third-party escorting.
  • Engage directly with end users to diagnose issues and understand technical requirements.
  • Liaise with Project Managers and Data Centre Leads to ensure work is delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.
  • Supervise third-party contractors on site, ensuring compliance with change governance, safety, and quality procedures.
  • Produce clear and accurate documentation, including test results, installation records, and end-of-shift progress reports.
  • Maintain accurate installation, circuit, and asset documentation, highlighting any deviations from design or scope.
  • Work from drawings, schematics, and specifications, always adhering to RAMS and on-site health and safety requirements.

What We’re Looking For

  • We’re looking for a reliable and technically capable Data Centre Technician with strong cabling experience and a customer-focused mindset. The ideal candidate will bring:
  • A solid understanding of structured cabling systems and data centre environments.
  • Experience working safely within live operational facilities.
  • The ability to diagnose and resolve faults efficiently and methodically.
  • Strong communication skills, with confidence engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly around documentation and reporting.
  • A proactive, flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and out-of-hours requirements.

Experience, Qualifications and Certificates

Essential:

  • Valid ECS or CSCS card.
  • Relevant industry qualification (e.g. CNet CNCI®, CNet CNIT®, BICSI Installer Level 2/3, or equivalent).
  • IPAF certification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • At least 3 years’ relevant practical experience in a similar role.
  • Experience installing and supporting copper and fibre ICT cabling systems.
  • General understanding of data centre operations and environments.

Desirable:

  • First Aid qualification.
  • Minimum five GCSEs (A*–C / 4–9), including Maths and English.
  • Experience working with CommScope Intelligent Infrastructure.
  • Awareness of Audio Visual, Electronic Security, IoT, and wired and wireless network architectures.
